In Malaysia, Graduate Technologist is a professional title and registration category governed by the Malaysia Board of Technologies (MBOT).

It is a professional status granted to individuals who hold a Bachelor's Degree in a recognized technology or technical field such as Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity or Software Engineering.

To be a Graduate Technologist

This is your entry point. You apply for this as soon as you graduate with a recognized degree.

1. Check Your Degree: Your degree must be in a Technology or Applied Science field (e.g., Cybersecurity, Biotech, Construction, IT). It should be recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) or specifically accredited by MBOT.
2. Pick Your Field: MBOT currently recognizes 24 Technology Fields. You must choose the one that matches your education (e.g., Information & Computing Technology, Green Technology, or Telecommunications).
3. Register via MBOT Portal: Create an account on the MBOT official portal.
4. Fee: Usually RM50 for registration.
5. Annual Fee: RM30 to keep your "GT" status active.
6. The Title: Once approved, you can officially call yourself a Graduate Technologist.

To be a Technologist (Ts)

Being a Graduate Technologist is the "probation" period. To get the Ts. title, you need to prove your salt in the industry.

1. Gain Experience: You need a minimum of 3 years of working experience in your registered technology field.
2. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): You must collect "CPD points" by attending workshops, seminars, or training. This proves you aren't letting your skills get rusty.
3. Apply for Professional Assessment: Once you hit the 3-year mark, you apply for Professional Technologist status.
4. The Assessment: This usually involves:
   • A Portfolio Submission detailing your technical projects and expertise.
   • An Interview with MBOT assessors to verify your technical competency.
5. Award of Title: If you pass, you are awarded the title Professional Technologist, allowing you to use the prefix Ts. (e.g., Ts. Your Name).
